Globalization, Demographic Change, and Real-World Tensions

Brady Phelan “How ‘great replacement’ theory led to the Buffalo mass shooting” Week 11 Globalization is often associated with economics, but this course has shown that it also involves the growing interconnectedness of people, cultures, and information across the world. Ideally, globalization is a supporter of diversity, opportunity, and world collaboration. But, comparing this concept to the events which occur in reality, it is evident that globalization is also a source of sometimes extreme tension.  But the reality as to how these changes are reacted to is more complicated. The extreme form of defining demographic change is the Buffalo mass shooting that is misconstrued. Brady Phelan "Boston review Patriotism and Cosmopolitanism"  Week 4 required reading   One of the concerns of the world political theory is the conflict between cosmopolitanism and patriotism. Patriotism and Cosmopolitanism on the Boston Review magazine article discusses the question of whether individuals need to associate themselves with their nation or the whole human race. The cosmopolitan philosophers are stating that people have a moral obligation to everyone regardless of the borders of nationalities. The world issues such as climate change, protection of human rights and refugees, in this perspective, require unity beyond the individual states. Conversely, defenders of patriotism feel that political duty and democracy is best applied to the national community where its members are bound by a national institution, culture, and political responsibility (Boston Review, 2019).
